FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What are Hanton Horseshoes?
Hanton Horseshoes are glue-on horseshoes that utilize traditional aluminum or steel shoes combined with our proprietary glue-on tab system. This design allows for straightforward application while delivering reliable performance across a wide range of equine disciplines. Check out our Hanton Journal article for an in-depth explanation of the Hanton application system.
What types of horses can use Hanton Horseshoes?
Hanton Horseshoes are suitable for many types of horses, including performance, sport, pleasure, and therapeutic cases. Our designs prioritize versatility and adaptability, making them effective across multiple disciplines and varying hoof conditions.
Do Hanton Horseshoes stay on?
Yes! When applied correctly and maintained on a regular shoeing cycle, Hanton Horseshoes perform comparably to traditional nailed-on shoes. Even large heavy steel shoes stay on AND unideal conditions like mud are no match for Hanton's secure application.
What type of glue do you recommend?
We recommend acrylic adhesives such as Hoof Life or Equilox. While some farriers have successfully used urethane adhesives like Adhere, we have found acrylic glues provide more consistent and reliable results.
Does the kit include everything needed for application?
The kit includes the essential components for the shoe and tab system; however, additional supplies are required. You will need:
- 6-inch stretch wrap
- Acrylic Adhesive
- A glue applicator/dispensing gun
The included mixing tip is designed for use with 420ml or 150ml acrylic cartridges, which require the appropriate dispensing gun. Alternatively, you may use a 2oz jar of adhesive with a 60cc dosing syringe to inject glue into the blister.
Regardless of the applicator used, avoid pressing the syringe or mixing tip directly against the hoof during injection, as this can displace the blister from the foot.
Is the plastic blister left on the hoof?
Yes. The Kevlar plastic blister remains in place. It protects the adhesive during curing and helps maintain a clean, polished appearance, particularly beneficial for show horses.
For additional moisture protection, we recommend applying a thin bead of super glue around the edge of the blister after removing the sticker. This helps seal the area while the adhesive completes its cure.
Can Hanton Horseshoes be reset?
The steel version of Hanton Horseshoes can be reset with the purchase of a Blister Pack.
- Carefully remove the shoes, taking care not to over-bend the tabs.
- Place the shoes in a forge or burn off residual adhesive with a torch.
- Reapply using the Blister Pack, which includes the four tabs, mixing tip, and gloves.
We do not recommend resetting aluminum shoes.
Can Hanton Horseshoes be used for therapeutic or corrective applications?
Absolutely. Many farriers utilize Hanton Horseshoes in therapeutic, corrective, and rehabilitation cases where traditional nailing may not be ideal.
Our tab system integrates well with pads, bar shoes, dental impression material, and a variety of other therapeutic products.
